Vintage 1970s Tipo Chianti wine 4/5s pint bottle made and bottled by Italian Swiss Colony in Asti, California. The glass bottle is wrapped in a natural color rope half way up the bottle. The rope is secured by alternating red and green plastic cording and is secured underneath the bottle. The loose cords at the top were for hanging the bottle. The bottle sits on an attached red plastic base. The bottles were dressed in raffia to resemble the straw-covered fiaschi bottles common to Tuscany, Italy.

Front label reads: "TIPO California CHIANTI (RED)" "Alcohol 12% by volume" "Made and bottled by Italian Swiss Colony Asti, Calif." The label is in good vintage condition. Please see pictures. Bottle is embossed "TIPO" on the back and 4/5s pint on the front.

The Italian-Swiss Colony was the most visited winery in California in its day, located near Cloverdale by Highway 101, and thrived in the early 1900s. It was founded by Andrea Sbarboro. One of the most famous wines was Italian-Swiss Colony's "Tipo Chianti.", which was said to be one of the best pre-Prohibition wines in California.

Fun decorative piece for any California wine lover or Italian collector.

8.5" Tall
3" Base

Purchased at a Northern California Estate sale about an hour from the wine country.
