’an• other here Berlin 2020’ is an artist book that consists of two complementary components. A poster in an almost B1 format (90.8 x 70 cm), a double page introducing the residency and the creative practice of the invited artists and finally the traces they left by them, becoming part of the archival fund of the residency.
Folded - Unfolded
The poster serves both a cover and a repository for the archival reproductions as well as a surface where to insert and display them. Loose and removable from the publication folds, the reproductions can be considered as objects per se as well as being part of an ensemble thanks to the double function of the poster.
Hanging
The blue profile of the poster dedicates placement for each archival element. When inserted the corners are visible on the backside. Each reproduction has a given title written under their corresponding placements.
Concept
In an era of deep changes, spatial perceptions are more prevalent within our shelters, and they alter our conception of the living and work places. Confronted by multiple boundaries, we are encouraged to explore the meanings of home and other everyday spaces, condensed in our nearby environment. This resonates with the practice of many artists, as their working habits are disrupted and confronted them even more with the notion of concealment. Whether it is the inaccessibility of their production sites or their exhibitions venues. They experience their living spaces intensely, transforming them into a receptacle of contestation, (re)invention and creation, bringing out new time-spaces. These engaged habitats indistinctly juxtapose individual (mental), relational (to others) and historical spaces that the guests sought to translate in the frame of the residency an• other here.
an• other here is a nomadic art residency, founded by the artist Lea Mugnaini and the independent curator Livia Tarsia in Curia. The first edition took place in a private home, with Berlin as a starting city. It is located in southwest of the city, between two gorgeous lakes: Schlachtensee and Krumme Lanke.
Artists
Between June to October 2021, an• other here welcomed four Berlin based artists: Asís Ybarra, Laure Catugier, Alan Affichard, Aiko Shimotsuma.
