How It’s Made:
Cold Cast Bronze is a unique technique where actual bronze powder is incorporated with a resin binder. The resulting cast gives the look and feel of traditional metal castings but with finer detail.
Each one of our Victorian Coffin Plaque Wall Decor / Ornaments are handmade by us. Molded off of a real 1880s coffin plaque.
Our Victorian Coffin Plaque Wall Decor / Ornaments are then buffed and polished with some hand painted accents to enhance the detail to bring out the rich antique bronze finish
Coffin plaques are decorative adornments attached to a coffin that can contain various inscriptions like the name and death date of the deceased or a simple terms of endearment.
They are usually made of a soft metal like lead, pewter, silver, brass, bronze, copper or tin. The different metals reflect the different functions of the plaques, or the status and wealth of the deceased. For a basic funeral, a simple lead plaque would be lettered with the name, date of death and often the age of the departed, and nailed to the lid of a wooden coffin. But high status people could afford a plaque of a more expensive metal and elaborate design.
Coffin plaques go back at least as far as the 17th century and were reserved for people of wealth. Through the centuries, more people were able to afford the luxury of a coffin plaque and with the industrial revolution, by the mid-19th century, the cost of the plaques decreased so much that almost every family could afford to have one put on the coffin of their loved ones.
When coffin plaques began increasing in popularity, the practice of removing the plaques from the coffin before burial became the trend as they were often removed by the loved ones to be kept as mementos of the deceased. This practice peaked in the late 19th century.

I lost my sweet boy of 12 years to cancer 2 weeks ago. The only thing that has helped me heal is finding ways to build him a beautiful memorial. Eventually, this will be hung above his mural that I’m waiting to be delivered, and I think it will tie everything together perfectly. This was delivered so quickly, way faster than I was expecting, so for now I have it on my bookshelf, and it fits nicely there as well. I think it’s a great product. Thank you.
I blinked and suddenly, it was here! Shipping was lightning-fast and I can’t wait to put this in my Victorian-themed bedroom. I’m obsessed with this. Thanks!
LOVE IT! Perfect addition to my gallery wall!
