Medium size Coptic bound journal in gray gilt linen

This is a one of a kind book I made for you, or for that special person you know would love to have it. This book has the special feature of opening completely flat, so it’s easy to write or draw on regardless of what page you’re on. It’s much more relaxing to use a book that doesn’t try to shut you out like some basic store-bought notebook that has very little character to begin with. This here is not just unique, it’s also durable and made with the precision of a master bookbinder.

5.1"x7"x0.9" (13x17,9x2,2cm) / 96 pages of white acid free fine grain paper

This minimalistic journal suits people of many tastes. (Feel free to call it Scandinavian minimalism, the book is made in Finland!) It has just the necessary amount of unusual to be interesting and the high quality materials used make it a pleasure to handle. The covers are European dark gray linen and they're gilt using imitation gold leaf that allows the beautiful texture of linen to show through, the pages are bound together with waxed natural linen thread and the paper suits all sorts of pens, pencils and other dry media.

This type of binding was first used by early Christians, the Copts (hence the name), in the first centuries AD. It is the first known codex style binding, a book that consists of folded sheets of paper bound together instead of, for example, simple loose sheets or of paper (or papyrus or parchment) rolled into a scroll. This binding technique isn’t just a quirky old way of making books – many modern bookbinding machines imitate this ingenious way of linking pages together – but a wonderful piece of living history.

Please note that due to differences in monitors your book may differ slightly in color from what you see on your screen. I do my absolute best to represent the colors as accurately as possible.

Frequently asked questions about paperiaarre

I don’t currently make any custom order books, and it’s not really something I expect to change any time in the near future. My Aspergers has the most effect on my time and stress management skills (and sadly I find all sorts of negotiation extremely stressfull, even if it’s with nice people about nice matters), and I’ve simply found it’s best for my health to work at my own pace. This way I can always guarantee the high quality of my work I hold so important. Nothing is designed or finished in a rush, so you can trust you’re always getting the best product possible.
Free gift wrapping!

Your order will always arrive gift wrapped in a nice, minimalistic manner, all ready for gifting, or for treating yourself to something special. I also include in my orders a mini bio, as well as a small info about the history of Coptic bindings if your order includes one.

If your order is a gift to someone, I'm happy to include a small note from you to the recipient at no extra cost! Just leave me a message about it during checkout, and I'll take care of it.
