For the first time ever... I give you a Doctor Who tea set.

(Non-geeks, avert your eyes.)

It's hard to feel just so-so about Doctor Who, isn't it? Since I first met the Doctor, it's been clear to everyone within the sphere of my immediate contacts that I am not in a position to be recovered from the sea of geekdom. Mostly because, well, I don't want to be.

This set is a tribute to the new series, and it includes 9 pieces, as follows...

The teapot. This is an average-sized, white pot, probably able to told four to six cups. The spout is short and somewhat angular (the words "Time Lord tea" are painted at its mouth), and the handle is as well. I painted the outline of the TARDIS on one side, with the famous police box sign represented in its middle, and a speech bubble coming from it which says, "I think you call me Sexy." On the other side, I divided quotes from Nine, Ten, and Eleven with the two sonic screwdrivers they use. Here are the quotes:

Nine: “And if you want to remember me, then you can do one thing. That's all. One thing. Have a good life. Do that for me... Have a fantastic life.”

Ten: "People assume that time is a strict progression from cause to effect, but actually, from a non-linear, non-subjective viewpoint, it's more like a big ball of wibbly-wobbly, timey wimey stuff."

Eleven: "All of time and space. Everywhere and anywhere; every star that ever was. Where do you want to start?"

Then there are the cups. I painted a cup each for Rose, Martha, Donna, and Amy, with their own quotes on the mugs, and a saucer that sums them up in other ways.

Cup 1: "And then I met a man called The Doctor. A man who could change his face. And he took me away from home in his magical machine. He showed me the whole of time and space. I thought it would never end." -Rose Tyler

This cup's saucer has a rose (obviously), and a banner which reads, "If I believe in one thing... just one thing... I believe in her." The center is painted with the words, "The Bad Wolf."

Cup 2: "My name isn't important. There's someone else. The man who sent me out there... And his name is The Doctor. He has saved your lives so many times and you never even knew he was there. He never stops. He never stays. He never asks to be thanked. But I've seen him, I know him... I love him... And I know what he can do." -Martha Jones

Martha's saucer is painted with a stethoscope in the shape of a heart, the words "The Other Doctor," and a banner which reads, "Martha Jones, you saved the world."

Cup 3: "There are things waiting in the darkness. Creatures of metal and fire and blood. But he’s out there, burning through time facing a thousand dangers across the stars and never giving up. He looks like a man but he’s a legend and his name is the Doctor." -Donna Noble

I painted a wedding bouquet on Donna's saucer, as well as the words "The Best Temp in Chiswick." Her banner says, "And for one shining moment... she was the most important woman in the whole universe."

Cup 4: "When I was a kid I had an imaginary friend. The Raggedy Doctor. But he wasn't imaginary. He was real. Raggedy Man, I remember you, and you are late for my wedding! I found you with words like you knew I would. That's why you told me the story. The brand new ancient blue box... Something old. Something new. Something borrowed. Something blue." -Amelia Pond

Amy's saucer has Van Gogh's sunflowers, as well as the words "The Girl Who Waited." Her banner reads, "Because you were the first. The first face this face saw. And you're seared onto my hearts."

Ultimate. Geek. Tea. Set.

This is perfect for Doctor Who parties (50th Anniversary, anyone?), or general tea drinking.

These are dishwasher and microwave safe, though I would recommend against scrubbing with anything too harsh, as such activities may shorten the lifespan of the art.

Some notes on international shipping... Since I have heard a willingness from some non-US residents to pay the outlandish postage required to ship a set this size and weight overseas, I have decided to offer it for sale to everyone. But because I don't know the rates in advance (and because I know they will be anywhere from $50-$150 through our dear, sweet Postal Service) I am setting a flat international rate of $150.00. I will refund the extra if you choose to take the risk, but please only do so if you are willing to pay anything up to that price. Thank you!

Frequently asked questions about OpheliasGypsyCaravan

All my pieces are scavenged from various stores, and I hand paint each one, so the short answer is 'no.' But if you'd like a reproduction of a past design on a different mug, I can absolutely do that. Please read my custom mug listings to see which one fits your needs: https://www.etsy.com/listing/109863641/simple-custom-mug-you-choose-the-quote?ref=shop_home_feat_2 ; https://www.etsy.com/listing/90199344/complex-custom-mug-you-choose-the-quote?ref=shop_home_active_5
That all depends on what I can find locally. Like sold mugs, I can't often (if ever) reproduce an exact duplicate of a sold item, but sometimes I can find similar pieces to paint the same way. These sorts of custom projects usually take a long time, mostly because the actual finding of the pieces is a long and involved process, but if you're willing to wait a bit, please get in touch and we'll chat about options!
Usually, when I post a large collection of mugs, I do it all at once, and alert my Facebook followers and mailing list of their availability. Since time tends to be of the essence in those situations, I don't measure each cup's liquid volume, because that takes a lot of time. But if you'd like to know the size of any given mug, feel free to message me! In general, mugs I classify as "Small" tend to be 6-10 ounces, "Medium," 10-12 ounces, "Large," 14-16 ounces, and "Extra Large," 18 ounces and up.
Absolutely! I have many custom options in my shop, from simple, black-text only mugs, to intricate, complex artwork and mug specifications, to bowls and decorative platters. They can all be found in the MISCELLANY section of my shop. (Please read the descriptions on the listings before you place your order.)
This question is one I still cannot satisfactorily answer, even after eight years of experience with these paints. The paint brand, Pebeo, claims that they are dishwasher safe, which is true in some respects. I have some mugs that I have been washing in the dishwasher for years, that are still mostly just fine. And yet, I think the dishwasher in question and the mug itself both impact how well the paint will stand up to that sort of washing. (In some cases, I think the detergent coats the paint over time, and even preserves it.)

On the other hand, I have seen mugs whose owners only hand-wash sustain significant damage from scrubbing. If you want to hand wash, take care to scrub ONLY the inside of the mug, and never the artwork itself.
Unfortunately, my mugs are not really wholesale material. They take me so long to paint that I really must ask the full price I charge for them, and can't discount for the sake of wholesale.
