Part of a butterflies diet includes salt and minerals. Once they find a source for these nutrients they will remember and return for more. Most gardens don't have a readily available supply. That's where a butterfly puddler comes in handy.
Each butterfly puddler comes with a small bag of sand-salt mixture to use in the puddler. The mixture is placed in the bowl and covered with water, which is allowed to evaporate, leaving a salt and mineral residue. When a butterfly finds this source of salty minerals they like to incorporate it into their diet.

The puddler is made of a light stoneware clay. Once fired the dish is glazed and recycled glass is added to the dish for its water-like design.
The glass is sprayed with a clear acrylic or latex coating to prevent glass from breaking away.
As you can see from the picture it makes a whimsical colorful addition to any garden and makes a great gift for butterfly lovers who will enjoy something different.
The dish is approx. 3.5 - 4 inches in diameter and 3/4 to 1 inches high.
The dish can also be used as a jewelry dish or other uses.

Each dish is individually handmade so it will look slightly different from all others. The recycled glass will melt differently in each dish so the amount of dark blue, clear, light blue and brown will vary from dish to dish.
