Wear to the cover - creasing, fading, etc.

The pages have yellowed with age.

The pages are still attached to the spine, but as you turn them you hear a cracking noise and they're starting to tear away a bit from the bottom.

There's a little hole worn into the side that you see when you look at the book while it's closed - this doesn't effect the reading process.
