Highlights
This listing is for a paper copy of this cross stitch pattern to be mailed to you. (If you are interested in a pdf digital download version of this pattern, please check my other items.)
Rosena Disery stitched her sampler in 1820 at the New York African Free School. It is one of a few samplers known to have been stitched by a Black girl and one of only two from this school. This pattern was created with permission of the New York Historical Society, which owns Rosena's sampler.
Amazingly, for a 19th century Black woman, there is a good deal known about Rosena's life. Extensive information about her and the school is included in the pattern.
The model was stitch on 32 count fabric using DMC threads. (See pictures for details.) Only cross stitches are used, but there is both over 2 and over 1 stitching in this pattern. Stitch count is 219 x 177. Pattern is black and white.
Happy stitching!

5 out of 5 starsI love it! You put so much work into this. Thank you!
I love this chart. The amount of info included on Rosena is much appreciated. Arlene was a pleasure to work with and I’ll gladly return to her shop for more charts. She shipped my order quickly. The chart is easy to read and you can see the amount of time and dedication that was put into this historic reproduction. Thank you Arlene!
I ordered the paper copy of the pattern, and I am so glad I did!! Super quality printed cross stitch pattern. So happy to have ordered this cross stitch pattern from this seller. Will definitely order from again.
