COULD PLAYING WITH A WOODEN TOY CHEETAH BE INTERESTING?

Playing with toy animals is not just about learning their names. If you would like to engage your children in long meaningful play, which would keep them happy away from screens, you need to do your homework first.

Open-ended play could be vastly enriched by background knowledge - a factor which constantly fuels curiosity and helps new knowledge be acquired in a meaningful way which sends it to long-term memory and serves as the basis for further knowledge. What could you do about this?

You could learn a little bit about the cheetah and see how it is related to many other things which work together and show your child how the world is connected and meaningful. First, a cheetah is a cat, so you can show your child how it is related to the pet cats they know, how some species can easily be domesticated while others cannot. Second, a cheetah thrives in very dry areas. Why? Third, it is well adapted to its habitat. How? Fourth, it feeds on antelopes. Why not teach your child about food chains and what it is like to be a predator? You could check our African collection for its favourite food - antelopes - Addax and Impala. Children would enact thrilling scenarios with these animals. Fifth, it is an endangered species. Why? You could teach your child about this concept and about the factors which might lead to the extinction of a species. Sixth, it is the fastest animal in the world? How is it so fast? You could teach your child about adaptation, help them figure out why, unlike other cats, cheetahs cannot climb. How is a cheetah community organized? Why is it so widely depicted in art, literature and animation?

There are so many interesting things a child can learn about a cheetah and branch out to learn many more through it. All this knowledge will provide them with exciting scenarios to enact in their symbolic play.

If your children love to go beyond facts and delight in hearing fictional stories, there are many about the cheetah, ranging from classics to popular sellers. You can easily find suggestions online.

CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE
Do not soak in water. Wash each toy separately with soapy water with some vinegar. Rinse as quickly as possible. Immediately dry with a towel. Let air dry.
For disinfection you can use rubbing alcohol. We recommend spiritus aethylicus for medical purposes.
Do not put on or near heaters. Do not keep under direct sunshine for too long. Moisture and heat can cause warping and cracking in wood, so wooden products should not be exposed to these for too long.
When toys feel too dry, they need to be oiled and / or waxed. We recommend linseed oil and beeswax waxes. Other oils and waxes could be used too: mineral oil, jojoba oil, coconut oil. Vegans can use carnauba wax instead of beeswax.

If you want us to send you the package again to another address, you need to pay shipping charges again OR place a new order if you do not want to wait for the original package to be returned to us.

Oh this was so lovely to receive and to hold - a good size for a toddler and finally rounds out our Goodnight Gorilla bunch. Delivery did take a while to arrive but was reasonably priced and worth the wait.
