The overview: A5 canvas miniature embroidery portrait.

The Artist: Hi, I'm Gemma. And this is me. Yes, I mean this is literally a drawing of me. I love to draw with pencil and I love to draw faces. I also love to sew and I love to embroider my drawings onto canvas.

The Process: This canvas embroidery was created by hand using a technique called freemotion embroidery. I start with a pencil drawing which I then transfer onto canvas. I then use my sewing machine like a pencil and stitch over the lines. I essentially draw with my sewing machine. The result is unique and original embroidery of fine lines and delicate detail. I then add an extra element with pencil, crayon and or paint.

Patches

When applying the iron-on patches place the patch onto garment or fabric. (I would advise only applying to cotton, canvas, denim or t-shirt/sweat shirt fabrics). On the reverse of the garment/fabric apply a hot iron. Press firmly for 20-30 seconds but keep the iron moving. DO NOT APPLY IRON DIRECTLY TO FRONT OF PATCH

If you are applying your patch to clothing or items that will be used frequently and/or washed I would advise stitching your patch to garment/fabric.

Art Work

All my art work is on canvas. This means that it is very easy to care for. It can be put in a frame or hung with clips directly on to the wall.

Should the the canvas get crease in any way it is possible to press it WITH CARE.

Pressing Your Art Work

Place your art work face down on an ironing board or towel on a smooth surface. NEVER APPLY IRON DIRECTLY TO FRONT OF CANVAS. Gently roll a hot iron over the back of the art work to remove any creases.
