Something magical about these little balls of algae with their gentle spherical form and lush green color at times with pearls of air bubbles. Watching little Marimo float rewards one with a sense of tranquility.......a balm to heal your soul.

This listing is for one Marimo aquarium with 2 Marimo Nano, approximately 1/2" each, 1 piece of sea fan, tiny shells, and white gravel.

Shipped as a kit which is easy and fun to assemble.

The vase has a rounded base, allowing it to lean at an angle, but will naturally settle into position after being placed on a flat surface, that is until you give it a push and let it roll for one or two rounds.

Dimensions: 4.5" tall, 3.5" deep, top opening is almost 1.5" wide.

Care is as easy as it gets: Marimo grow in cold tap water. Water change is only required every one to two weeks, more frequently in summer and less in winter.

Story/History behind Marimo:

Marimo, literally “ball seaweed”, also known as Japanese Moss Ball, is a rare species of green algae, growing into large green balls with a velvety appearance and are found naturally in a number of lakes in the world. The round shape of the Marimo is maintained by gentle wave action.

In Japan at Lake Akan a great effort is spent on the conservation of the lake balls. In 1920 they were declared a Japanese Natural Treasure and in 1950 the first of the annual Marimo Festival was celebrated.

They are compared to the Earth in being green and round and in their need to rotate in order to receive light on all sides. As a result of photosynthesis, they float or sink in the water in response to light, and actually roll around on the bottom of the aquarium.

The growth rate of a Marimo is only about 5mm per year. It is said that they can live for up to 200 years, which makes them an ideal family heirloom.

The Japanese believe that Marimo will bring good luck and see it as a symbol of everlasting love. It is also said that taking excellent care of your pet Marimo will make all your wishes come true....

A fantastic gift, maybe for a friend who could use some extra luck these days!

Frequently asked questions about PinkSerissa

Marimo can stay out of water and in the shipping box for at least two weeks. They will probably be fine for up to three weeks. After that they will need water and light.
Air plants should be removed from the shipping box as soon as possible even if you don't intend to set up the terrarium right away. Just provide light and soak in water once a week.
An instruction/care sheet is included with every terrarium
