Cascade Falls, Wisconsin Wall Art, Osceola, Wisconsin Print - Canvas/Paper/Acrylic/Metal

I had seen some photos of Cascade Falls in Osceola, WI and I wanted to see if I could create a photo for myself that I liked better. My first surprise upon arriving was that getting to the base of the waterfall required walking down 156 steps! Luckily it was downhill!

I had timed my visit for a day toward the end of July when relatively little water was going over the falls. I prefer photographing falls with less water flowing so that the water appears more transparent, like a curtain. Upon arriving I saw that the conditions were perfect and there were only a few other people around. They would usually stay only a few minutes before moving on. I tried photographing from different views in the intervals when no one was around, but I wasn't real excited about what I was getting. I kept moving around to different vantage points and finally scrambled up a wooded slope and discovered this vantage point. Although it wasn't this exact view since there was a branch in the way, which I needed to hold back while I was shooting in order to get a clear view.

Just when I got all set up and was ready to start taking my photos, the place was suddenly crawling with people. There were people, and especially children, everywhere. They were exploring behind the falls, and in front of the falls, and even running through the falls. None of them seemed in any hurry to leave. They were having too good of time. I tried my best to be patient. Five minutes. Ten minutes. Fifteen minutes. Finally, the last of them headed back up the stairway and for a few seconds at least, I had the place to myself. I took a series of shots at different exposures and this was my favorite. All that was left to do was climb those 156 steps, which I managed with some breaks along the way. A couple months later I discovered that I had a 70% blockage in my heart and had to have a stent inserted. If I had known, I probably would not have made the trek to visit this falls!
