The "Age of Innocence" was painted by Sir Joshua Reynolds, in the mid to late 1780's. The modelled sitter is guessed to be Sir Reynolds' three or so year old great-niece, Theophila Gwatkin. A "fancy picture" character study portrait, which was painted over another Reynolds painting, "A Strawberry Girl", with only the hands remaining as was from the original painting. The original oil on canvas painting has resided at the the Tate Museum since 1951.
