His Dark Materials Subtle Knife.

Here is my rendition of The Subtle Knife based on His Dark Materials trilogy. This is not a physical product, but a STL file to print with a 3D printer!

I have always loved the books and I love the show, so I figured I would give it a go. It is highly detailed and optimised for resin printing. You can use a FDM printer, but you will really love the detail this model can put out if you print it in resin.

I recommend that for the blade, you use a tough resin or mix Siraya Tech Fast with Tenacious, so that it comes out a bit flexible and therefore does not snap easily.

Each wooden panel is numbered, as well as on the hilt, so you know exactly how to match the panels. You have to paint the hilt and blade separately in chrome, paint the wooden panels to look like wood, and the angels gold. Then assemble everything as shown in the image. The 3D model was split perfectly so it is super easy to paint and then assemble. Use the file called Stand, with an extra aluminium rod, to hold the blade and hilt upright so you don't have to touch them while painting, and can achieve the best chrome effect.
