School was paid for, I was into my Junior year of college. I only kept getting promotions at work. I have always had an interest in Art, I have been painting and selling my work on the side, but not as serious as people on the arts district. The day we broke up, I quit my job and I dropped out of school, I began devoting my life twoards painting full time. I was accepted by some galleries, and decided it wasn't worth the trouble to be involved with society any more. To do what people kept saying was the "right" thing to do. All I saw around me was students paying too much for degrees that they can't actually use. Going to college because they were told to. By leaving, and rejecting what I was supposed to do. I learned stuff that you don't learn in school, like what a good portfolio looks like, how to "talk" to people. Trust, Honesty, Creativity, Devotion, these aspects go a long way, after being heartbroken and betrayed, I learned what it mean't. It isn't about what you do, as long as you enjoy doing it. When things fall apart, they probably aren't working. People do not invest time and energy, just because of skill. People invest in honesty. It takes a lot of responsibility to be in charge of organizations, to put events together, to handle big checks, to be negotiable, to be honest. I keep getting lucky, I keep getting referrals. I got a teaching job teaching a language I don't speak, simply by showing up and being 100% honest. I got an engineering job purely based off a phone conversation. I got a directors job by not knowing what I was doing, just by being reliable, and demanding the same of my underlings. Life is no secret. What I have here is no trick, no gateway to enlightenment, nothing great. It's my work, my self-portrait all inclusive in paint. Its whom I am, whom I want to be.

TITLE: "Anemos-Dream, Ocean Dream"

ARTIST STATEMENT: I asked her to do specific poses, I called her square. In all honesty, she was square, but what is wrong with that? Crucify me. She started crying at the end of the shoot. Shortly after the breakup; local figure painters and my professors. Began critiqing my ability to paint figures on my earlier work. They told me what was wrong with my figures. They said stuff like; “she’s a bit tubby, it’ll never sell”, and “you seem to paint only what you think art is”. I rationalized this for a bit. Like a plastic-surgeon, I outlined the muscle groups. She was crying about her weight, and the art community was concerned about her proportion. Do we take a ruler, and measure a girls limbs. Is this how we decide, that yes indeed, she is beautiful? The problem isn’t beauty or rules of beauty, it’s the excessive need to pursue it, to punish someone for wanting it, and also for not having it. It’s desired over anything, even happiness. The problem is emphasizing that beauty is not important; but don’t ever let someone call you ugly.
