Description

This 16 1/2 inch necklace is made from Zuni-style* Unakite bear carvings strung with gold fill heishi beads and finished with a lobster claw clasp.

Traditionally, Zuni fetishes are small animal carvings made by the Native American Zuni tribe. The Zuni world is made up of six regions or directions, each represented by a guardian animal. These guardians are considered to have protective and healing powers. According to Zuni mythology, the Bear fetish is the Guardian of the West and has the power to heal and transform human passions into true wisdom. Zuni tradition holds that the Bear can help when you are attempting to resolve conflict, forgive yourself or others for errors of the past or when you are faced with new challenges in your spiritual path.

Unakite is a unique stone in mottled shades of green and salmon. The gem gets its name from the Unakas mountains in North Carolina, where the stone was first discovered. It is a stone of vision and balances emotions with spirituality. It is said to lift your spirits when you are feeling down and thought to help you see and appreciate the beauty in life.

Gold-filled means that the outer 10% is 10k-14k gold bonded to an inner filling of a harder metal for strength and durability. The result is a metal with the same look and wearability of karated gold at a fraction of the cost. Gold-filled is NOT gold-plated! The layer of gold on gold-plated items is 1/1000 of the total metal content, and as you probably know, it rubs off easily, Conversely, Gold-Filled is very substantial and does not erode away with normal wear or cleaning. People with metal sensitivities can usually wear gold-fill without experiencing the irritation that base metals can cause.

*I want to emphasize that I have no ancestral ties to the Zuni tribe, and I am not selling this jewelry as authentic Zuni jewelry. While I am an appreciator of the heritage and folklore of many cultures, I have no direct lines to any Native American tribe (although my nieces are descendants of Princess Pocahontas, but that is through my brother-in-law's line!)

I am sorry to hear that the rubber clutches tarnished the sterling ear wires. I've never had this happen before. I have a 100% satisfaction guarantee and am sending you pre-paid postage to return the items so that I can re-make them and replace them.

These are pretty, but one of the hooks was mangled in transport (insufficient packaging), and part of its hook blackened where the nylon back was placed.

I'm so sorry to hear that the earring arrived damaged and that the rubber clutch caused the sterling to tarnish. I want you to be 100% satisfied, so I am replacing the earrings for you.
