Sterling silver, garnet

The White (albino) Spirit Raven is a rare occurrence in Nature, that carries great symbolic meaning in the Native cultures of the Great Northwest. I first saw some photos just last year (bless the internet!), and vowed that I would make a special version of my Raven Ring. The meaning of a Spirit Raven sighting varies according to culture, but in general, symbolizes the fact that loved ones who have crossed over to the Spirit realm are trying to give a message to someone in the Physical plane. Gives me goosebumps!

This ring is cast in sterling silver with RED (genuine garnet) eyes! This ring is fairly large - I would even say BODACIOUS! It's quite a statement, and is equally popular with both men and women. From the tip of his beak to the back of his head, the Raven is about 43 mm long (1-3/4 inches). It's hollowed out under the head, so it's not too heavy, but it's quite a substantial piece.

It can easily be worn on the ring finger of either hand, but y'know what looks cool? Wear it on a middle finger - or index finger - or even your thumb! Or if want to go all out - get one of each, black and white, to wear on corresponding fingers of each hand (see my other listing for a special deal on both) !

Like my black Raven, this one gave me some special challenges: specifically, how to bring out the meticulous detail in my carving without making it look tarnished in the process. The solution to my dilemma was to use a special patina in a light grey color to bring out detai, land then accent around the edges with a more dramatic black patina. This allows me to give the piece an overall satin finish that holds up to wear very well!

Oh, and here's a little jeweler's secret, to brighten up the white areas if ever needed: just use a little Arm & Hammer baking soda mixed to a paste with water, and rub the surface with your thumb! Rinse & dry, and your ring will be bright & clean!

I can make one for you in just about any size. Size your finger, as if buying a smaller ring - the hollow under the head allows your finger to expand, so you don't need to order a larger size than usual. Available: 5-6-7-8-9-10-11-12-13, plus half sizes. Any jewelry store can determine the correct size for the finger you want to wear it on, and I will custom-make one for you - it generally takes a couple of weeks.

A lot of people NAME their rings! If you do, I'd love to hear what it is!

How to size your finger for a Raven Ring:

First, I would suggest going to a professional jeweler to have your finger sized properly. They have the finger sizers (basically, a cluster of different sized rings) that you can try on to determine the correct size.

There are basically 2 types of finger sizers out there: One for narrow-shanked (normal) rings, like wedding rings and such, and one for wide-shanked rings, like bands , etc. They make them that way, because wide bands compress more of the finger, and you might need a larger size for a wide band than a normal ring.

For a Raven ring, you want the NORMAL (narrow-shanked) finger sizer. Even though it's a large ring, the shank at the bottom is still narrow, AND the space underneath the head is hollowed out - which lets your finger expand up into the ring, so it's more comfortable!

To determine your proper size using a finger sizer, try on the size that seems to fit well: it should be a little difficult to get over your knuckle (most knuckles are bigger than the finger itself), but once it's on your finger, it should not feel too tight. You don't want it to cut off your circulation!

Once you have it on your finger, PUSH UP on the bottom of the ring ... you should be able to push it up far enough to see a space on the top between the ring and the top of your finger. If it's too tight to make that space appear by pushing up on the bottom of the ring, try the next biggest half-size.

Likewise, if the space is huge, and the ring is loose on your finger, go for a smaller half-size. You can almost always get it over the knuckle by using a tiny dab of hand lotion or soap to make it slippery. Also, since the Raven is hollow up under the head, it gives your knuckle room to get through it more easily.

If the size doesn't seem right, just send it back to me - I'll resize it to your specifications for free! All it will cost you is the postage to & from me. With shipping and insurance, it runs right about $10 each way. If you're in Albuquerque, just bring by my studio to save shipping.

Even though I might have made it sound complicated, it's very easy! Most jewelers will assist you in getting the right size. All in all, it's a very comfortable ring when sized correctly, even though it's BODACIOUS!
