During the lockdown in 2020 I started painting birds. Because I was at home a lot, I noticed how many birds could be seen in our garden and how beautiful they actually are. I started feeding them and quickly became an avid birdwatcher. It inspired me to make a whole series of bird paintings to this day.
Such as this unique and hand-painted painting of a Oehoe Owl. I've made this painting using oil paints. The technique I'm using is called 'alla prima' or 'wet in wet', which means I work in wet layers of paint and paint the painting in one session.
For a smooth surface I paint on panel in stead of canvas. The size of the panel is 10x10cm. the panel is framed in a wooden floater frame.
