Description

Sulfa Crystals and Mother Liquor, painting by Thornton Oakley, original illustration plate 1945.

SIZE: 6.5 x 9.5", ORIGINAL 1945 illustration, like new.

Thornton OAKLEY (March 27, 1881 – April 7, 1953) was an American artist and illustrator.

Oakley studied with the famous American illustrator Howard Pyle at University of Pennsylvania for three years and acquired a huge collection of Pyle's works.

From Wikipedia:

"Oakley became an illustrator and writer for periodicals, including Scribner's, Century, Collier's, and Harper's Monthly. In the years 1914-19 and 1921-36 he was in charge of the Department of Illustration at the Philadelphia Museum School of Industrial Art. In 1914-15 he also taught drawing at the University of Pennsylvania, and gave lectures at the Art Institute of Chicago, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the Curtis Institute.
During World War II he did three sets of pictures of the war effort.
After the war he was commissioned to paint industrial subjects for the Pennsylvania Railroad, the Philadelphia Electric Company, Sun Oil, and other industries.
In 1938-39 he did six mural panels for the Franklin Institute in Philadelphia on epochs in science."

This is 1945 ORIGINAL magazine plate (NOT copy and NOT reproduction).

Interesting to note, that Oakley primary colors were Red, Green and Yellow. He didn't sense the rest of the colors. You can see it clearly in all his works.

Dark tones dominate, with Yellow and Red beautifully standing out.

This is a new standard shipping from Israel, and also in US. It is much more efficient than old Registered Mail which USPS has eliminated a long time ago, and therefore is not trackable. ECO POST guarantees 5-7 days to deliver, instead of 2 weeks.

Posters, pages, illustrations, also pocket books and other thin books - shipped in large bubble envelope betweenfew pieces of strong cardboard, REinforced with thin wooden sticks taped to cardboard, plus the words "DON'T BEND" in RED on both sides of the envelope.
Other BOOKS are shipped in bubble envelope also, placed between two pieces of cardboard, to protect the book.

Additional policies

For Birthday Posters, I accept a limited personalization, like a favorite baseball or basketball club of that year, or anything else, which will fit in a small space on the poster.
Printed poster is shipped in 1-2 days.
Digital file for download is emailed usually the next day.
