Description

The verse is a translation of the second verse of Antonio Machado's poem, Anoche cuando dormía. (Machado was a Spanish poet who lived from 26 July 1875 until 22 February 1939.)

This is one of my favorite poems, and speaks of redemption, second chances, and making a good life from past mistakes.

I set the verse in vintage metal type from the Printing and Book Arts collection of the Genesee Center for the Arts and Education, Rochester, NY.

The background is an original linoleum block print, created from my original illustration. I printed the background in a bright yellow, and printed the black type on the second pass.

The print is signed in pencil below the image; this print is numbered X/27, starting with 1/27, etc. This print is on a heavy, textured cover stock, more reminiscent of water color or pastel paper than the usual smooth letterpress stock. Paper size is 9.5" x 13", image size is approximately 8" x 8".

This beautiful original print is sold unmatted and unframed so you can customize it for your décor.

All prints are carefully packaged and shipped flat.
