Class: Bookbinding: The Coptic Stitch

Description:
In this workshop, students will create a hard-covered Coptic-bound book. The Coptic stitch dates back to the 4th century and is characterized by its chains of stitching along an exposed spine. The Coptic stitch is durable and adaptable to books of an array of sizes and functions. Books bound by this method can open 365 degrees.


Please bring the following supplies to class:

-an old book cover or boardgame you don't mind cutting up
-paper (optional--some paper will be available)
-bone folder
-awl
-any ribbons, yarn, thread, embroidery floss, and other ephemera that you might be interested in incorporating into your books
