Each clip-on bird Christmas ornament is hand carved from yellow cedar. Our wooden Scarlet Tanager, which is approximately 4" (10.16 cm) long, will arrive gift boxed with a descriptive card.

These Scarlet Tanagers clip on to your Christmas tree branches with a mini clothespin. These clothes pins are incredibly sturdy. To the best of our knowledge, none of the pins has broken and we have sold hundreds of these clip-on ornaments, some dating back to 1998. After the birds are carved and lightly sanded, each bird receives a base coat of acrylic paint and another sanding. The colors and details are then painted and the ornament is finished with at least two coats of acrylic varnish. As each bird is hand carved and hand painted, no two are exactly the same and your ornament may differ slightly from the ornament pictured on our site.

The Scarlet Tanager (Piranga olivacea) is commonly found in interior forests in north-eastern and north-central United States as well as southern Canada from Manitoba through the Maritimes. Scarlet Tanagers prefer mature oak forests for breeding and require a minimum of 25 forested acres to thrive. In smaller areas, they are more susceptible to predators.
