I love looking at old pattern books, those that were printed in the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries, and thinking about both the history of the patterns and how they might have been used centuries ago. In paging through “Il spechio di pensieri delle belle e virtudiose donne”, a book published by Matheo Pagano in Venice in 1544, I came across a few pages with border and square designs that really
appealed to me. I realized how they could come together to form a band sampler and this pattern is the result.

Pattern is black and white and uses full cross stitches and tent stitches only. I stitched the model using 5 skeins of DMC 115 (variegated red).

Stitch count is 50 x 211.
