A nice little tea set for personal enjoyment. It's thrown on the wheel with grolleg porcelain which is translucent where thin, but it also give the work a nice glow as it absorbs the light. This batch of porcelain fired in a very interesting way. After glaze firing it took on a texture similar to having small stones in it (see last photo.) It was a pretty happy accident and I think it enhances the depth of the surface.

This is a small set holding just 50 ml. at full capacity (where the lid meets the interior of the cup) Its actually a very nice size for personal use, for enjoying small amounts of expensive tea or even for having a small session last at night.

A Gaiwan is used to brew fine tea in "Gongfu" style. The cup is partially filled with loose leaf tea, filled with water, and then the lid is used to strain the brew by holding the cup rim with your thumb and middle finger, while the index holds the lid slightly askew (the lid of this set is made slightly oval to create a small gap). This can usually be repeated many times with the same tea leaves depending on the quantity and quality of leaf used. If your not familiar try a Google or YouTube search which will bring up a lot of results.
