I am a spinner. I always keep an eye for antique french spindles for my own collection, but I also share some of the spindles from the lots I buy...

The metal hook end was purchased separately from the spindle, but it fits perfectly and is similar to other spindles which were found intact with the metal end.

it measures about 28.5 cm long (approx 11") altogether and measures about 2 cm (less than 1") at its widest point. The metal attachment measures 8.5 cm long (3 1/3 in) and about 1 cm at its widest point.

Spindle is in good general condition, no bug hole that I can see.
Metal part is all rusted but otherwise in good condition. You can see a place where the sheets of metal overlap at its base: I find it really cool to be able to see how those were made ! (and definitively artisan-made !!!)

It comes from France, but I don't have any other details as to area or age.

Made from wood, with a hook at top to secure yarn as you spin.

I tried to photograph it accurately, feel free to click on pictures to get the full size.

More spindles to be listed very soon, keep looking !
I am currently writing an ebook about those vintage french spindles: subcribe to the newsletter to know when it's ready: http://chezplum.com/chez-plums-newsletters/ !

Shipping is higher than would usually be applied to such a light item but I will pack it well to ensure it comes to you in good shape, and that means more weight in packaging !
CCheck my feedback to see what previous buyers said about vintage spindles they bought from me. And see my store policies as well :-)
