Description

Sweet Baby Charles

Charles Dickens was born in Portsmouth in this pretty terraced house in No 1 of what was formerly known as Mile End Terrace. Today it is the Charles Dickens Birthplace Museum.

"A fairly ordinary terraced house near the dockyard," as one biographer described it, was the backdrop to the birth of one of the greatest English novelists, on February 7 1812. Though when Baby Charles was just three months old the family moved to another house.
His father, John Dickens, worked as a clerk in the Navy Pay Office at the dockyard and paid out £35 a year to rent this little house.

This is a professionally printed card of my cut paper collage, Sweet Baby Charles, one in my ongoing Writers' Houses series which has been featured in The Guardian and Homes & Antiques Magazine. It measures 17.5 x 12.5 cms folded and is blank inside for your message.

Explanatory text and my logo on the decorative reverse.

Perfect for lovers of Charles Dickens, English literature, naive art - and even as a new baby card!

Comes with a brown kraft envelope in a cellophane bag.

Thank you for looking!

If you can see the card on this review you know there is reason to cheer. I love all Amanda White cards and this one is a favorite. I ordered it as a gift card to go with a package but it will be hard to part with it (if I can at all) The best protective packaging I have encountered in International shipping. Always a special element to the package.
