I’ve always been fascinated by fire. On the lower right, is a photo of me and my brother sitting on the cement porch that I set on fire at 5 years old.

I drew pictures on the porch with lighter fluid and lit them over and over. I loved the patterns that the fire left behind - until a neighbor alerted my mother. What happened next is a whole other story...

This is one of a series of 10 matchbox pixies that I created. One of the matchboxes in the series will be featured in the July\/August issue of Altered Arts Magazine - so check it out. See more of my art at www.patriciahartnett.com.

While I learned early on to respect fire, I still find it beautiful - the way it alters molecules before our eyes and releases energy from inanimate objects. I used fire to shape edges of the vintage papers. I embraced the blackened, singed areas it left behind. I also used fire to melt wax onto the surface of the match book.

Each matchbox pixie is approx. 5.5" x 3.5".

This piece of art could be used a gift box for a small piece of jewelery, an ornament, trinket box, secret hiding place or hung on a wall.
