This pattern includes a good basic beanie pattern that works up with a straight seam and the popcorn stitch for the beard makes a lovely texture. I didn't like that standard crochet terms weren't used. For example "sng" for single crochet instead of "sc" or "dbl" instead of "dc" for double crochet. The author is honest saying that things won't always work out, so it's ok to fudge it. Even if it can happen, I like to think it shouldn't if the pattern works up as it should. Lastly, I guess I expect paid patterns to have formality to them. If you're reading a pattern off a blog, I'd expect things like "throw in an extra at the end to =50" to appear, but not necessarily on a paid pattern. In the end, I got it worked up & my son is happy with it. These comments are just my personal opinions of paid patterns after years of crocheting

I bought this pattern and the adult version of it as well and I've worked them both up. They "shipped" immediately, being digital products, and the pattern themselves worked out just fine! I found these patterns' results far better than others I've seen on the 'Net!
