I've enjoyed shooting bows and arrows since I was a kid, and for many years I've been making all my own archery equipment. Bowyery is a fun and interesting challenge...my bows are hand-carved from a single piece of wood (or two pieces, in some cases), expertly shaped and tillered to withstand a lifetime of shooting.

This listing is for a custom-built bow made from Elm wood (Ulmus sp.), an excellent and under-appreciated bow wood. The style is based on some of the oldest bows known, the Holmegaard and Ringkloster bows...both discovered in Danish bogs, and around 6,000 years old. Despite the extreme age of the finds, this is an effective and well-thought-out bow design, which I've tried to closely replicate.

I hand-cut, split, and dry all the wood I use. For maximum resistance to breakage, The back (tension side) of the bow is one continuous growth ring. The wood is finished with French-polished shellac...the handle wrap is hand-stitched leather, and the string is made of B-50 (Dacron), a strong, durable synthetic fiber. The bow is designed to be shot "off the hand" in the manner of an English longbow; there is no sight window or arrow rest. Each bow comes with three matched wooden arrows, painted in bright, highly visible colors.

Different archers need different draw lengths and weights. In general, a smaller person needs a lighter bow; a heavier draw weight is needed for a big, strong person, or for hunting. I make bows in draw weights between 25-65 pounds, with 35-45 pounds being a happy medium for most uses. If you know your specific draw length and weight, I can build your bow to whatever you request. If not, I can probably recommend a suitable weight.

Each bow is custom-made at the time of order...because of this, it may take me up to two weeks to finish your bow and get it in the mail. Overall length will vary between 60-68" long, depending on draw weight and length desired...since the shape of a bow depends on the piece of wood it's made from, no two bows will be exactly alike, but they will be very similar to the bows shown in the photos. Please convo me with any questions or requests; I want to make each bow as suited to its owner as I can.

Bows and arrows are not toys - serious injury is possible! Learn how to use it properly and safely, and never point it at anything you don't intend to shoot. 18 or older only to purchase this item, please!
