Q: What is the difference between cotton and minky?

100% Cotton: Medium-weight cotton, traditional choice for bedding, economical option, printed with water-based inks, so expect some fading on the first wash, and some thereafter. Black, navy, red, and pink tend to print muted on cotton.

Minky (Recommended): Silky soft, slightly-napped texture like you'd find on a cozy blanket. Surface is flat with no raised dots. Colors print vibrantly and there is no fading, so stains can be treated and scrubbed with no worries. Black, navy, red, and pink print true and inky. Try not to mix minky items with cotton items, especially if you are using the same design across your bedding.

We always recommend minky because it is beautiful, soft, and holds up well to life with babies, but we especially recommend it if your designs include black, navy, red, or pink.

Cloud blankets and loveys are all made with minky tops, so keep that in mind when mixing them with other types of bedding. For example, a minky blanket mixed with a cotton sheet in the same design will look mismatched.

While minky is heavier than cotton, it is breathable and appropriate for use year-round.

Q: Does ordering a minky nursing pillow cover mean that there's a pattern on one side and minky on the other?
A: We actually print the design you choose onto a low-pile white minky fabric, so it's the same design on both sides of the nursing pillow cover. Here's a close-up shot of what it looks like:
