• Sterling silver can tarnish over time. We do coat our sterling silver jewelry with a coating that delays the process.

• 14K gold filled and 14K gold wears very well and with normal wear can last years and even decades. If you ever have any issues with your jewelry breaking or discoloring, contact us to help you get a replacement.

• A polishing cloth is sent with all gold filled rings and sterling silver rings that do not have the special coating.

• Tarn-X or some baking soda and water made into a paste does a great job at getting rid of tarnish and shining your rings.

• Our jewelry is packaged in a cute box or envelope ready for gift giving. You can also request a personal message which we hand write onto a gift tag. We try to package responsibly in an effort not to waste. Often more than one item will be placed in the same box. Please specify if you would like your items individually boxed. Bridesmaids gifts will each have their own box.

• Unless you have a skin allergy to sterling silver or gold you should not have any issues with the metal turning your skin colors. You also should be able to wear your jewelry in the water without discoloring or damaging your jewelry.

14K yellow and rose gold filled jewelry consists of a solid layer of gold bonded on top of a base metal. This base metal, which is brass (a make-up of copper and zinc with no nickel), allows for the ring to be sturdy, and affordable. Gold filled handles daily wear similar to solid gold, and with normal wear should not fade away over time. It contains 100% more gold compared to gold layered, or gold plated jewelry, and does not tint skin color (unless allergic to gold).

Perfumes, creams, lotions, and makeup all contain substances than can affect plated jewelry. Some soaps and detergents are stronger and harsher than others. Certain fruits and vegetables are acidic. Some are more alkaline.

The point is, any substance that isn’t PH neutral can potentially affect your plated jewelry. I’m no chemist, but I can offer you a few suggestions to extend the life of your gold plating.

1. Wash your hands before putting on or taking off plated jewelry.
2. Put on gold plated earrings after you’ve applied your perfume.
3. Put on your plated jewelry after you have applied lotion or put on makeup.
4. Take off your plated rings or bracelets before chopping tomatoes for dinner.

Plated jewelry should be cleaned periodically. Even if you’re sure your ring hasn’t been exposed to any of the aforementioned substances, it’s been in contact with your skin—which does perspire.

Wash plated jewelry with warm water. Use a mild soap only if necessary. Getting junk out of nooks and crannies with an old, soft toothbrush is Okay. If you need to use toothpaste use a gentle one with no whitening agents or abrasives in it.

Be gentle and don’t rub too hard. I’ve seen examples of gold plated jewelry where vigorous rubbing with a polishing cloth took off some of the gold plating, revealing the darker less appealing metal underneath.
