***This is the NEW and IMPROVED version of the 4 cup carrier. It's now heaps easier and produces a more professional looking product.***

You know how it goes – you have your officemates’ coffees on a rickety cardboard tray in one hand, wallet in the other, then you have to press the elevator button and swipe your pass to get onto your floor. Hmmm, not enough hands.

How about this – a sturdy little baggie that will take four takeaway coffee cups or juice cups so that you can hold the lot in one hand without spilling a drop. The body of the bag measures 16.5cm high by 18cm wide (6 1/2" by 7") and the four compartments inside can hold up to an extra-humungo-grande cup size. The pattern calls for Mexican oilcloth, which is not only inexpensive but which you can also rinse easily under the tap in case of mishaps.

This bag can be made pretty quickly (under two hours for someone who has sewn before) and makes a great gift for any coffee, juice, or smoothie lover. It’s a very easy pattern to follow and doesn’t require any special sewing skills or knowledge but as it’s a 3D shape it does take a little patience to fiddle with the final seams. All you will need for this pattern are nimble fingers and a relaxed state of mind. All seam allowances have been included in the pattern pieces and are ¼” unless otherwise stated.

As for fabric, you will need 43cm (17”) of Mexican oilcloth and the pattern lists some sources of this. Other things you could use though are plastic tableclothing or vinyl, or try your hand at creating a fully recycled coffee bag by using this method for creating a heavy plastic fabric from old shopping bags: It’s a brilliant how-to tutorial thanks to Etsy and Make Magazine.

My favourite is to use chalkboard cloth – it makes a great looking black bag that you can write your coffee orders on. If you’re giving it as a gift, remember to add a piece of chalk tied with a sweet ribbon.

The pattern is supplied to you as two PDF files. One containing the instructions with colour pictures and tips to get you through. The other is a printer friendly file for the pattern itself. All pattern pieces have been carefully and accurately hand drawn with plenty of easy to read labelling. Just print on A4 or US Letter size paper and sticky tape the sheets together at the edges. These files are now available for instant digital download but I am still available to assist you at teapotandsnail [!at]

I am happy for you to sell your finished bags on Etsy as long as you credit Teapot & Snail as the designer on your page and do not mass produce the bag.
