Westfield by Bulova Men’s Vintage Watch with Long Tonneau Shaped 10 K Yellow Rolled Gold Plate Curved Curvex Style Case and Sub Second Dial. Circa 1939-40.

This is a beautiful long barrel or tonneau shaped curvex style curved case gold plate watch with great Art Deco styling and a dial, case and movement that are in very fine condition. The ornate case is 10K rolled gold plate, which is much thicker than today's electroplate.

The white dial features raised gold Arabic numeral markers, gold hands, and a sub second dial. There is mellow patina on the dial. Patina such as this develops over time, and is valued aesthetically by watch collectors for its unique colors and variations, creating an item that has grown especially beautiful with age or use.

Ready to give! Ready to wear! Ready for weekends in The Hamptons.

Mechanical Hand-Winding Vintage Classic Watch.

-Raised gold Arabic Numerals
-Hour and Minute hands are also gold

The watch measures 40mm long by 22 mm wide excluding the crown.

The vintage and probably original band is signed: A S / 1/20 12 k g. f. / DES PAT PEND. (A. S. stands for American Standard Watch Case Co., a Bulova Watch subsidiary).

WINDS...SETS...RUNS...KEEPS TIME...

As with all of my watches, this one has been "wear-tested" before it was listed. Here is the report: Winds fully each morning. Performs accurately and beautifully for 24 hours on each full wind.

This is a vintage, collectible heirloom quality wind-up mechanical watch. This is not a quartz battery watch. This watch needs to be wound daily in order to run and keep time. Please read our policies “About Vintage Watches” before you decide to buy this watch.

Westfield watches began circa 1917. Documentation shows that the Westfield Watch Co. or as it sometimes appears Westfield Watch Case Co. was a wholly owned subsidiary of Bulova and was named for the street on which Bulova's other subsidiary, American Standard Watch Case Company, was located. (Westfield Street in Providence Rhode Island). Westfield watches are appreciated for their fine Bulova quality and relative scarcity, by those who own only one vintage watch, as well as by those who are serious watch collectors.

Bulova was founded and incorporated as the J. Bulova Company in 1875 by Joseph Bulova (1851 – November 18, 1936), who came to the USA from Bohemia. Bulova created and sold outstanding watches, importing quality, dependable movements from Switzerland, and placing them in a dazzling array of stylish cases, which were always named and which changed each year, just as auto manufacturers still do. Bulova was an innovative company, and is credited with the first commercial radio ad and the first commercial TV ad “America Runs on Bulova Time”. For many years the largest lighted sign in New York City advertized Bulova watches. Bulova was in the forefront of creating watches that did not need to be wound up, which they called the Accutron, introduced in 1969. Bulova watches are eagerly collected; you can find several outstanding websites where their models are pictured and discussed.

When you hear the name Bulova, you immediately think of stylish design, and then you think of lasting quality. Bulova offered both. Bulova was always a leader in creating fashionable watches that were in step with larger design trends. Their watches are always chic, often elegant, with dials, cases and lugs that make them stand apart from other watchmakers’ offerings of the same era. These tasteful creations were always named, so it is a relatively easy task for watch collectors to identify their Bulova. This is a key feature in their desirability today. A vintage Bulova watch is always a classy statement on the wrist. We have found that the vast majority of vintage Bulova watches that have been part of the delovlyness collection over the years have also been excellent timekeepers. Bulova watches never fail to satisfy.
