CORK FABRIC
Cork fabric is made of the best quality cork shavings removed from the bark of the cork oak tree and transformed into very thin sheets that are laminated to a backing support. It's ecofriendly, 100% natural, renewable, recyclable and biodegradable. Cork is soft, lightweight, versatile, impermeable, insulating and very durable, versatile, dust and dirt repellant. It's great for craft projects...

Portugal is the world's number one cork producer and from our large cork forests comes this incredible material. Unlike other cork fabrics in the market this one is 100% Portuguese, not only uses our cork as is produced locally. And 100% sustainable: the manufacturer avoids chemical products, choosing a water-based adhesive, instead of more aggressive ones as it often happens.

BACKINGS
Different backings allow cork fabrics to have different uses. I work with three different backings: textile, coagulated and Lap. Although frequently used, this manufacturer avoids working with pvc backings.

The textile backing (a cotton/polyester blend fabric) is very soft and pliable, easy to fold, similar to a common fabric, suited to sewing works as clothing and accessories or upholstery.

The coagulated backing (coated PU, a leather substitute) is stronger and less pliable, more similar to leather than to a fabric, used to make shoes, bags… It can be sewed but It's better not to fold it.

The Lap backing, a non-woven fabric, is similar to the textile but thinner and even more pliable and light-weight. It has no cotton in its composition and it's less soft to touch.

The last photo shows the tree backings and the differences in appearance and pliability, being the Lap the most pliable and the coagulated the least.

PATTERNS
There are many patterns available and colors, too. The patterns are not printed, only using natural cork. Even colored cork fabric is dyed and not printed. Some of the patterns are always in stock (the ones in the penultimate photo) and others must be made to order.
All patterns can be produced using any of the three backings, the price is the same, but there are minimum quantity orders. Let me know if you want this pattern with a different backing.
