Description

This Cherokee style Booger Mask is made from gourd and rabbit fur. The mask depicts the Booger Man who encroached on Native soil

6" X 9"

Each piece of artwork comes with historical and/or artist comment card to describe the piece seen
(ie)

"Cherokee Booger Mask"

(This is wall art and not a wearable mask)

In the Booger Dance, Cherokee men wearing ragged clothing and masks interrupted an evening of social dancing. When asked who they were and what they came for, the boisterous Booger men gave outlandish names and tried to start fights. Each intruder then performed a solo, often ribald dance. Cherokees believed that illness and death came from outside forces and the Booger men represented those outside influences - The European - Americans who encroached on their homelands and distruped tribal lifeways.

My Native Canadian heritage is that of Ojibwe. My Great Grandmother was full blooded Ojibwe from Ontario, Canada

Disclaimer: My artwork cannot be called Native American made as I cannot qualify for that status.
