In 1830 in a convent in Paris, a small angel awakened St. Catherine Laboure and told her that the Virgin Mary would like to see Catherine in the chapel. When Catherine arrived the chapel was filled with light. Our Heavenly Mother sat in a chair and Catherine rested her hands and head in Mary’s lap. The Blessed Mother asked St. Catherine to make a medal and showed Catherine a picture of exactly how the medal should look. In essence, then, this medal is a self portrait of Mary, grace flowing from her palms.

The medal was an instant hit and earned it's name by reputation. So many people who wore the medal had miracles happen to them the medal came to be known as the "Miraculous Medal".

St. Catherine’s incorrupt body is with us today, but her hands and the chair Our Lady sat upon are in another room together.

Hand Painted in sparkley blue, Miraculous Medal on Mary blue colored ball chain measures 23".
