Wanna help the monarchs (and other pollinators) and have enough room in your yard or community garden to spare? You need common milkweed. But, be warned, it's an aggressive native that you'll find yourself having a love/hate relationship with. It smells divine, it attracts all sorts of bees and beneficial insects, and, of course, it is one of the host plants for the monarch butterfly. It will spread in your yard -- I just want to make that clear. So be prepared to share new plants and seeds with friends and other pollinator and native-plant enthusiasts. It mostly grows in full sun, but I have several plants in a part-shade situation and they bloom and produce seeds and do just fine. Germination rates improve when you prep seeds using cold stratification, or you can winter sow—there are a ton of resources online that will guide you through those processes, but feel free to ask for more information. I have my favorite websites bookmarked.
There are many online resources on best practices for sowing the seeds I'll be selling—so do a little digging on your own, especially when figuring out what works best for your climate, soil type and sun exposure. That said, I am more than happy to answer any questions!
All seeds I sell have been harvested from my garden unless otherwise stated. I do not spray if that is a concern. I cannot claim to be "certified organic" but that doesn't diminish that love and TLC that goes into all the plants I grow and the seeds I collect.
This listing is for a .5g packet of Asclepias syriaca aka Common Milkweed seeds. It makes a great addition to any of our gift boxes or an excellent companion to our Gardener's Soap for loved ones who like to play in the dirt!
