I love this dark, moody portrait! It has a retro feel despite being contemporary.
The painting looks like oil paint (possibly with some acrylic paint) with a faint glossy varnish on a canvas panel trimmed down a bit unevenly to about 11" by 8 1/4". The painting is in good condition overall but it is a little more roughly painted up close with errant paint streaks and speckles, lower paint layers (in color and texture) visible through the upper layers, popped air bubbles trapped between the warp and weft of the canvas and a dark brown paint that shows between those spots on the orange section of the woman's face (which gives her a rougher speckled texture that looks more like oil pastel), a chunkier than average canvas texture, additional wear and chipping along the outer edges that can't be seen with the frame in place, tiny pieces of dried paint and tiny dust fibers and paintbrush bristles caught up in the surface, superficial scratches that are glossier than the surrounding finish, tiny whitish scratches and speckles of discoloration from friction, speckles of unpainted (but primed) canvas, and smudges and scratches made in the wet paint. The finish is mostly satin with areas that are more matte or glossy from the varnish wearing thin or being lightly applied.
The older vintage wood frame is covered in a pinkish red stain and then a metallic gold paint covered in a thinned matte brown paint or pigment (with purple or blue undertones depending on the light) in the details. The frame is in decent condition overall but it does read as "shabby chic" because of its many small scratches and dents (some of which reveal the pinkish base stain or the bare wood below), prominent nail heads at the outer corners, errant smudges and fingerprints in the paint, a prominent wood grain pattern that shows through the paint, fine to heavier craquelure/ cracking forming on the paint, many matte greenish and dark brown and dark gray speckles of discoloration that look like tarnishing (especially along the outer edges), extra wear and chipping at the outer corners, many missing paint chips throughout the front of the frame, and color irregularities. The frame increases the overall dimensions to 12 9/16" by 9 7/8".
I tried to capture the painting in as many light conditions as possible so you can see how its appearance varies based on the lighting. The painting can appear cooler, more muted, and darker in lower light or brighter, warmer, bolder, and more colorful in bright light. Note that because the finish of the painting is satin this painting should optimally be displayed where it doesn't strongly catch bright artificial or natural light (which will create a dulling glare), so be prepared to have flexibility with where you place it for maximum impact. Make sure you eye the photos closely and are okay with the overall condition before purchasing.
