These stars were considered by Medieval astrologer/magicians in Europe and Arabia to be potent sources of power.
Algol is Beta Persei in the constellation of Perseus, the Champion.
Algol represents the head of Medusa.
Its name comes from the Arabic Ra's al Ghul, or "the Demon's Head".
Ghul literally means "Mischief Maker" and is the origin of the English word "Ghoul".
The Hebrews referred to this star as Rosh ha Satan, or "Head of Satan".
The Chinese knew it as Tseih She, "Piled Up Corpses".
