This gorgeous antique Eastlake chair frame has been fully reupholstered featuring vintage fabric, circa 1970, with artful large-scale vase and gilded leaf motifs on the inside and outside backs. The seat is covered with Magnolia Quatrefoil in aqua by Bartson – a superb compliment to the vintage fabric on the back, as is the uniquely styled fabric trim. Additional details include burnished brass tacks, lovely incised carvings and original casters. This chair has been fully reupholstered from the frame up (modern technique) – new webbing, six-way tied springs, foam shaped with a muslin layer and topped with Dacron and, finally, the fabric coverings.

The vintage fabric on the seat back is not heavyweight upholstery fabric, rather drapery/home décor weight. Given this, I don’t recommend this chair for heavy every day use. It is, however, quite suitable as a bedroom chair, for example.

This is a petite chair. The seat height is 16.5”. It is 19” wide at the front narrowing to 13.5” where the side rails meet the back. I am 5’2” 145 pounds. When I sit in the chair, my feet sit flat on the ground and my hips are comfortably snug against the side rails at the back.

Please note that the 120+ year old frame does bear some signs of its history. It is sturdy – all of the dowel joints tended to and freshly reglued with traditional hide glue. I generally leave small dents and scratches alone (save for refinishing) as I believe these age-old badges of honor only add to the beauty and charm of restyled antique pieces. The entire piece has been re-stained and finished with satin lacquer. There is a previous repair to one of the rear legs. It is solid, so I left it alone aside from re-staining and toning the surface to mitigate the scar. I have included a photo of this as well as a photo of the most visible of the minor surface wear. (Please see last two photos in the series.) Additional detailed photos of the frame, as well as the internal upholstery, are available upon request - simply go ahead and message me.

I’m looking forward to seeing this beauty off to a good home! It’s a truly stunning, one-of-a-kind, piece of functional art.

Monday Wash is a boutique statement furniture and custom upholstery shop specializing in the artistic arrangement of beautiful vintage and contemporary textiles on vintage/antique frames. The resulting pieces are comfortable but also completely original and aesthetically striking. My mission is to rescue, reimagine, restyle and rehome furniture as functional art.

What's with the name? In the past, Monday was the traditional day for laundering in order to start the week fresh. When I started this business, my laundry room became my workshop - home to a set of
antique upholstery tools and a mid-century industrial Singer sewing machine. Appropriately, even as my business grows (well outside my laundry room), I continue to use those beautiful old items to breathe new life into high-quality furniture that may have seen better days. This is Monday Wash, where old treasures get a bright, fresh start. Thank you so much for stopping in to take a look! Please come back soon, or visit us on Facebook and Instagram, to see what's fresh from the wash.
