I'm not sure what kind of material my flooring is, can you still make treads with it?

Yes. We offer solutions for every type of flooring. Some types of floor plank cannot be heat shaped such as Laminate or Extruded Polymer. For these we fabricate sections and build each tread cover. These type start at a higher price point as they require more fabrication and labor to produce. (See our listing for Laminate and EVP)

How long will my order take?

Turnaround times depend on several variables but are generally between 4 - 8 weeks (5-10 wks for laminate). Rush orders are availible for an additional 20%. Economy shipping is included in your order and generally takes 5-8 days once shipped. We will do our best to accommodate the time lines associated with your project. With custom products, communication and good faith play an important role. Turnaround time windows begin once material has arrived at our shop and all required information & dimensions are provided.

Maintaining structural integrity is key for durability and performance. Using a torch or heat gun to shape flooring is a popular but problematic practice. Shaping floor plank by these methods introduces a very steep tempurature gradient, compromising the material core. This damage is especially sneaky because the wear layer may look fine for months or even a couple years... but sure enough, as your home and stair materials move over time, the damage becomes apparent. So, do your future self a favor and avoid a sinereo where you're standing on a floor you love, looking at stairs needing replacement. Based on conversations I have each week... I know, that is NOT a good feeling.

For example, they may look great in the day but in the evening, under artifical light, they appear to be a different sheen... or worse. Then you have the manafacturer offerings which are made by a 3rd party. While some match better than others, they never actually match. They are always bulky and detract from the style and attractiveness of your floor. I have a weekend and youtube, why not DIY my own?

DIY is a great idea for a great many things but at times you may be "DIY-ing" your $$$ away. It's all over YouTube and Tiktok, home owners and contractors heating and bending stair nose from flooring. They are all using either a torch or heat gun to accomplish this and it's a costly mistake... CAUTION - Do not use a torch or heat gun, the nosing WILL FAIL. The temperature gradient is simply too steep. Once the structural integrity of the core material is compromised it's just a matter of time before cracks, fissures and fractures show. They're waiting just under the surface and failure is a matter of time. These same home owners and contractors are reluctant to discuss how these stairs are performing years down the road. Curiously, there are no follow-up videos. - Of the many reddit, tiktok and youtube creators (of this content) I've engaged with, not a single one was willing to provide a current photo of their stairs... Bottom line here is, VALUE is found in doing it right, right from the start. Replacing a staircase of failed stair nosing is always a more expensive option.

There are two ways to source materials: 1) You can ship to us or 2) if your plank can be sourced locally we can purchase it here saving you the shipping cost.

IMPORTANT NOTE: If ordering nosing only it will come with a slight horizontal deflection. This deflection is designed to add tension to the step edge for a more durable and long lasting installation and may require additional installation step/s for some planks. These steps may require the use of bar clamps, a straight edge clamping surface (example: 2x10 or 1x10 lumber), and/or painters tape when aligning the joint mechanisms of the Nosing and Plank (to be fused with CA glue). Many planks have weak or ineffective joint mechanisms. For planks with a more robust mechanism (click joint) the use of tape may be sufficient. These methods will ensure you achieve a tight, perfect joint for each tread. If you or your installer are at all uncomfortable with these additional steps or do not have the necessary tools; it is strongly recommended that you include this step with your order.
