Translating directly from Latin as ‘remember death’, Memento Mori reminders take many forms. Some carry coins. Others place art or sculpture near entryways and exits as a reminder to remain humble. In Roman times, an aide would follow great generals around during a triumph, whispering to them ‘remember, thou art mortal’.

Reflecting on mortality need not be morbid. It’s simply one of the three essentials of existence. Life, death, and the passage of time. The ancient Egyptian custom of wheeling out a skeleton during festivities celebrated death as the great equalizer and Egyptians cheered “Drink and be merry, for when you’re dead you’ll look like this!”

Featuring a skeleton adorned in purple and gold robes and carrying the sands of time, this print is a perfect reminder that no matter how high you fly in life, you too, will be reduced to the three essentials like everyone else. Stay humble, and live your life to the fullest every day. Remember that death comes for us all, and the only thing we can do is be present, in the present.

The print looks great! Exactly as pictured. Gave it as a gift to a family member. Shipping took longer than expected but that was on the postal service, not the seller.
