Dried Rudbeckia, Natural Dye Plant Material

This listing is for 25 grams of dried rudbeckia heads. Rudbeckia, or black eyed Susan, is a great flower for natural dye and will produce yellow on mordanted fiber. This variety is Indian Summer. In the example I used half the weight of dye stuff to yarn and I got a nice yellow on alum mordanted merino wool yarn. From left to right, dye color on wool, color shifted with ammonia, and the last one shifted with vinegar. The color will vary depending on mordants, water, type of fiber, and amount of dye stuff. All part of the fun of natural dye.

The typical ratio is 1:2 dye stuff to fiber. More dye stuff equals a deeper color. A great resource for natural dye is Wild Color by Jenny Dean.

These flowers were grown on my farm without any pesticides, fungicides, or insecticides, hand harvested and naturally air dried.

Flowers are packaged in a compostable bag. Dried flowers are fragile and although packaged carefully they are susceptible to shedding or bits breaking off. Please handle with care.

To maintain beauty and color, keep out of direct sunlight and humid areas.
