Why pay $80 to $130 (or more!) for a pre-made glass insulator pendant light, when you can easily make your own in just minutes, for a fraction of the cost? All you need is your own glass insulator (with a 1/2" hole drilled through the top¹), and this kit (plus a candelabra [E12] base bulb of your choice), and you can make a beautiful hanging pendant light. Don't have a glass insulator? They are usually available (sometimes even pre-drilled) here on Etsy, or eBay, and many other places like antique shops, garage sales, and from family and friends who often have a whole box full of these sitting in their basement. Sometimes you can find them (with no hole drilled) for as low as $5 each. For the bulb, you can use almost any standard candelabra (E12) base bulb; either incandescent or LED.

TWO VERSIONS AVAILABLE:
This kit is available in either a hardwire version, or an 11-foot plug-in version. The hardwire version (available in 4ft, 6ft, 8ft, and 10ft lengths) includes a black round cloth-covered cord, and a 1/8" IPS cord mount/strain relief. Also available for a limited time (while supplies last) is a 50" (4 foot) kit with TAN twisted pair wire. You'll need a ceiling canopy kit (or track lighting adapter²) to wire and install this version (a few extra inches of wire are included to make up your connections). Because there are so many options, these are not included (but there are plenty of options right here on Etsy, just search for canopy kit). The 4-foot hardwired 3-pack saves you $5.98, and contains a single set of instructions, and consolidated packaging. See photos for a breakdown of what is included with the hardwire kits.

The plug-in version includes an 11-foot cord with polarized plug and inline on/off rocker switch (located 30" from the plug). It also includes two steel screw hooks, and two plastic cord clips to hang or "swag" the cord from a wood beam, for example. See photos for a breakdown of what's included with this kit. The kit shown in the video is of the plug-in version, and the special suspended ceiling hook shown in the video is not included (but easily available online).

BULK PACK NOW AVAILABLE:
I now also offer a hardwire kit bulk-pack, where you will receive enough materials to make up to twelve hardwired 4-foot hanging pendant lights. You'll get a single 50-foot coil of wire and all of the other raw components you need. No soldering is necessary, but nothing is pre-assembled. You'll receive everything shown in the photo of the bulk pack. A heat gun is recommended for the small pieces of heat shrink tubing (hair dryer or other heat source can also be used). Twelve kits would normally cost $263.88 if purchased separately, but this bulk pack is a special price of only $199 (about a 25% savings) vs buying 12 pre-assembled kits. Illustrated instructions are included, but please note that assembling this kit involves working with 125VAC wire and components. Improper assembly and/or failure to follow instructions can result in electric shock, so it's recommended only for adults who are confident working on projects like this. Please consult a licensed electrician if you are not comfortable assembling and/or installing this kit. All applicable components are UL Approved.

TECHNICAL DIMENSIONS:
The round cloth-covered wire has a diameter of .24" (6.1mm). With the cardboard insulator sleeve, the diameter of the porcelain socket is 0.81" (20.58mm). Without the cardboard sleeve, the socket is 0.71" (18.03mm). This should fit just about every standard insulator out there just fine, but keep in mind this might not fit your particular insulator if it's a special or obscure model or design. A translucent or clear insulator is recommended.

PLEASE NOTE:
The plug-in version is not available with a dimmer instead of the switch, or with a cord longer than 11 feet. Not recommended for outdoor use, or in damp/wet locations. Because glass insulators with holes drilled in them are weakened and can crack or break with excess heat, an LED bulb (or incandescent bulb of 25W or less) is recommended (bulb not included). The insulator can potentially crack or break if a 40W or 60W incandescent bulb is used.

If you need a quantity not shown here, a white-wire kit, a kit with an E17 (intermediate base) socket, or a custom-length hardwire kit (more than 10 feet), just let me know. Quantities of up to 24 kits (or more, in some cases) are available through custom order, and I will always consider giving a discount on large orders. Some custom orders may be at a higher cost than in-stock items. Once again, please note that a glass insulator is NOT included with this kit. This kit can also be used to create or repair other types of hanging pendant lights, just as long as the parts fit properly. In some cases, a shorter (1") lamp nipple would work better when not using a glass insulator - I'd be happy to include one of these (instead of the 1-1/4" length) if you need it (just let me know).

¹Drilling a hole through a glass insulator can be intimidating or difficult if you've never done it before. There are a ton of videos on YouTube that can help you with the drilling. Just search for "drilling glass insulator" on YouTube. The drilling can be done by hand, but I recommend a drill press for best results. You'll need a hole saw bit (which is not included) such as this:
