A favorite folding technique of mine creates expanding rays of light through a butterscotch dawn. Violet, blue and pink mark where the fabric was clipped in place, along with dark liquid tracings of the combining of the onion skin dye with the steel clips. About 54 inches long and 12 wide.
Crepe de chine silk has a gently creped texture and subtle sheen, luscious drape with light weight.
Onion skin is a most versatile and mysterious plant dye. Its healing gift is the recombination of perception as layers of our living awareness shift, new layers are revealed. It is the papery skins of the onion that yield dye: gold, or tan, or orange, or olive, or brown. This scarf was blessed with golden tan throughout.
Colors from plants are more subtle and complex than those created by chemicals, as an acoustic chord is more complex than a single electronic tone. Plant colors shift in the light, creating rich harmonies with every move. No two batches of dye can be the same; hand dyeing produces utterly unique, one-of-a-kind pieces.
Each plant-dyed garment carries the energetic healing signature of the plant itself. Peaceful and generous, plants are the basis of life on Earth. The foundation of the food chain, they also provide shelter and air for every form of life from bacteria to humans. They give us flavors, fibers, fragrances and medicines. I have made and used flower essences as vibrational remedies for over twenty years. You can learn about my healing work at www.astroessence.com. The scarves I make are also charged with a polarized energy imprint through the work I do with healer Bill Stratton. You can find more about his work at www.billstratton.com. Your Zeldez Plant Wear purchase is a healing gift to yourself as well as planet Earth.
Plant dyes are free of chemicals. Mostly organically grown or wildcrafted plants are used. We harvest responsibly. Many plants I use are considered nuisance species, or are the inedible parts of food plants, or garden flowers past their prime of beauty. Plant dyes are non-polluting, harmless to the environment.
Handwash in cool water and mild, Ph neutral cleanser. I like to use Shaklee Basic H or All Free Clear. Avoid prolonged exposure to light which will fade colors over time, even synthetic dyes will fade from light. Iron without steam on silk setting.
