Sofa stories is a picture book for grownups - it *does* contain: angst, sadness, grief, problematic family relations, awkwardness, identity, gender, strength, sweetness, nostalgia, love, a tiny bit of sexual reference and light BDSM. *Does not* contain: any references to self-harm.

This project unfolded in a particular way - the images were created first, and the stories after. Betsy would paint a particular piece of furniture or a location, usually midcentury-inspired, and then bring in a humanoid animal character. Then, Mike would write a response. The resulting stories are surprising, poignant, cringeworthy, sometimes sad, sometimes hilarious.

A unique piece of art, signed and numbered in sequence. The book is 8 by 8 inches, and the printing and color are just beautiful.

This is a phenomenal book full of stories that tease you in then punch you in the gut - not in a bad way, in a way that opens your mind to the realities of life our fellow humans have to navigate. It’s been made pretty clear that this isnt a children’s book, but the lovely illustrations give the stories a natural empathy that words alone might not have accomplished. What a gift of a book.
