While visiting Dead Horse Point in Utah I happened to see what at first I thought was a Blue Jay that had lost it's crest feathers but on a closer look it wasn't a Blue Jay. When we got back to the park headquarters I asked the rangers what type of bird I had seen and taken pictures of. They said it was a Scrub Jay, which is an endangered species of jays, and you could see them in the southwest. I came home with the image of it on the point fresh in my mind and painted this portrait
