Due to a sudden increase in orders, and the fact that it’s just lil’ ol’ me doing all the crocheting, felting, needle felting, sewing, and shipping around here, it will take me approximately 2 WEEKS to finish and ship these booties. If you need them sooner, contact me and I’ll see what I can do. But in general, it would help me out a lot to have a little more time to make each pair.

Thanks for your understanding!

These baby booties are handmade with pure, 100% Merino wool that has been felted using original patterns and techniques. They are designed for comfort, functionality, durability, and, of course, adorableness.

Babies are only this little for a little while. So, give them something precious to wear now and a special reminder of childhood to display, pass down, and cherish for years to come.

To learn more about how I make these booties, please read below.

Making these booties is a process that requires meticulous attention to detail and a whole lot of love. Here's how I do it:

Crocheting

I crochet them using my own patterns and 100% Merino wool yarn (which I love because it soooo very soft!). They start out looking much different than the ones pictured; they're twice as big, flat, floppy, and you can see through all of the holes between the stitches. People are often shocked by how dissimilar they are!

Felting

Felting or “fulling” is the shrinking process that transforms the crocheted yarn into thick, soft, and durable booties.
Felted wool is much different than wool\/synthetic felt, which is purchased by the yard, cut using a pattern, and sewn together. Felting is making your own fabric using very hot, soapy water, and agitation. The felting process makes wool very soft, thick and durable.
Felting can be very tricky and it takes a long time to get it right. I’m very particular about the look and texture of my shoes; I don’t want lumps, bumps or unevenly felted parts. I also make sure they felt to the right size and that each shoe perfectly matches its pair.
When they are just right, they are rinsed thoroughly with cold water, and air dried.

One of my favorite things about wool is that it is naturally elastic so it won’t constrict the growth of baby feet like hard-soled shoes can. Other interesting facts about wool:

~Wool is easy to clean: Liquids will sit on top of the wool fibers and can be wiped or rinsed away without penetrating the fabric.
~Wool can hold 30% of its weight in water without feeling wet.
~Wool can help regulate body temperature.
~Wool is naturally flame-retardant.
~Wool is an environmentally friendly alternative to leather and synthetic materials.

Sewing Velcro Patches:

The final step is hand sewing sticky-back Velcro patches onto the straps and sides of the shoe. The stitches are there to reinforce the fabric glue and make sure the patches never come off! (Believe me, I’ve tried to pry them off—it’s not happening!!)
After trying buttons, snaps, and ties, I found that Velcro was the best way to fasten the shoes. Every baby is unique and always growing, so I wanted something that could be adjusted to accommodate for all shapes and sizes. It is so important to me that my shoes stay on, as this is one of the biggest complaints I hear about other baby booties. Velcro allows you to get the shoes on easily and strap them on as tight as needed.
