I came across a stash of good-sized amethyst and prasiolite (green amethyst) stalactite slices direct from Uruguay, and am in the process of transforming them into wearable art.

This first piece is simple. A single, deep purple slice of a stalactite, polished on both sides, with natural crystals protruding from the edges. Wrapped in soldered sterling silver wire curls (not wire-wrapped, but soldered into a prong-style holder!) The longest curl on the left side has a prong-set, 6mm purple Cubic Zirconia heart on its upper side.

A delicate sterling silver chain has been attached to free-floating jump rings, both of which have been soldered shut for security. Surprisingly lightweight for solid stone and metal!

Stalactites are rock formations found on the ceiling of caves. They are formed over hundreds and thousands of years, slowly dripping water in the dark, depositing minerals on the stalactite and onto the floor to pile up as a stalagmite. Amethyst stalactites can grow very large, and command thousands of dollars for a whole specimen. Slices of this deep purple color command a higher price than the lighter purple and smaller sizes, sometimes reaching into the hundreds of dollars for a single piece.

Approximately 19" (48.5cm) total worn length, plus approximately 2" (5cm) more to the bottom of the main piece. Main piece is about 2" (5cm) across.
