Description

This alien was only trying to make friends and learn how to surf like all the cool kids.....Too bad he didn't have the best social skills.

The original print is from a 1935 Curt Teich postcard photo set entitled "Aloha" Hawaiian Islands.

I am selling 50 signed and numbered prints of this painting. The number I have listed as available is how many are left in the series before it is sold out completely.

I will be selling the original in November, 2013. I have been invited to be the local guest artist for VCON (Vancouver Science Fiction Convention) in October of this year and I would like to display the original there.

The series has been featured on:
http://twistedsifter.com/2012/04/adding-monsters-to-thrift-store-paintings/

and my new set in the same series:
http://twistedsifter.com/2013/05/adding-aliens-to-thrift-shop-paintings-thyrza-segal/

I use (upcycle) thrift store landscape paintings as my backdrops and I "Put a Monster On It".

I know this form of art alteration has been growing in popularity but I like to think that I have a slightly different spin on it....I have a background in theatrical set and costume design so I prefer to think of the original prints as backdrops to be used as an environment for my aliens to interact with and to lend a place for them to create their own adventures...

The listing includes:

-One signed, numbered giclee print on matte paper with archival inks. It has been enlarged from the original size to fit a 6" X 4" frame.

-One 2 dimensional picture frame printed on glossy photo paper. I am including this so you can see how great the picture will look if you get a similar frame. You could use it as the display frame too, if you are so inclined. The Hollywood Regency frame was one of the reasons I was drawn to the print in the first place. I personally think the 2 dimensional format lends an especially classy element to the fine art...

* I have heard some people express concern that I am ruining someone else's art. I make a point of only painting on to prints...I also prefer prints that have been stained or marked so that it is a sure bet that I am rescuing the piece from the landfill rather than defacing any valuable art.
